Outdoor IP cameras generally require a higher megapixel count as they are relied on to cover a larger area. A sharper original image is needed to get a clear picture when zooming in on far away objects. When properly located and mounted these cameras can identify license plate numbers, vehicle and equipment unit numbers and identification markings. The image quality of today’s high megapixel cameras is stunning and better than any ultra high definition TV picture on the market.
Digital pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) cameras can also be utilized to gain extremely close views of industrial yards and large commercial sites. These devices utilize both optical and digital zoom technologies to give an incredibly close-up image from hundreds of feet away. PTZ cameras can not only be used to track people after hours and can be operated from a computer or mobile device, but are also used as a real-time inventory control device, allowing users to check in on equipment and stock to ensure customers are guaranteed the items they require.
Indoor IP cameras can employ a lower megapixel count as they are usually imaging smaller areas. These devices have 30 meter (100 foot) night-vision and deliver as good an image as higher megapixel cameras. If digital zooming is required, higher megapixel cameras might be needed.
What would be the point of purchasing a security camera system if the pictures were of no use in identifying a perpetrator?
Getting the most out of your security camera system is not as easy as mounting four cameras in the corner of each room. If a crime occurs and you do not have a usable image to give to the police or retain for your own records, your system loses most of it’s value.
Laying out a camera design and selecting the correct security cameras is the job of a professional. Lighting (artificial and natural), camera angles, existing wiring, users previous knowledge, weather conditions, network capacities, wireless options, advanced camera settings, covert camera options, image storage calculations, multi-site coordination and accessibility, not to mention customer budgets, are just some of the considerations our account managers and design team scrutinize when proposing a solution based on the characteristics and needs of each individual site and client.
